Castro Convertible Sofa - Rare - Good Shape - $175 (Torrance)

This is a very rare piece of furniture.
It has been in my family for 50 years plus.
We bought it second hand in the Washington, D.
C.
area.
I moved it to Los Angeles in 2002.
It figure it might be 60 - 70 years old.
Bernard Castro really made a name for himself and his family by inventing a new piece of furniture that was very practical.
He also made coffee tables that converted to a dining table easily.
So, home from work, TV, dinner and then rest in the same place.
He had stores in 12 states and was as good in promoting his furniture as was the furniture itself good.
I think these sofas were more popular on the East Coast.
This sofa is really heavy.
It has a heavy duty frame.
It is hard for two people to carry it even though it is short or love seat in length.
The mechanism still works well.
It is well designed and produced.
The leather has been patched a few times but overall still in good condition.
I have used it as is for years and it is still comfortable for sitting.
However, it will take some work to make it new again if the new owner wants a new Original Quality Castro Convertible.
The mattress and mattress cover are original to the bed.
The new sleep sofas are light weight and likely not as comfortable for sleeping.
I would like to see this so to someone that collects old furniture and go to a good home.
Maybe someone will restore if back to it former showroom glory.
It is in a small location so I can't show it fully opened.
It does open and lays flat! I will include a bunch of photos including the heavy duty mechanism that holds the bed in place while folded and while used in sleep mode.
It has a head board and foot board that keep the mattress in the correct position while folding.
The mechanism is amazing.
