*Job description*
Provides science instruction in native Japanese language to seventh grade through 9th grade students at private school servicing Japanese-speaking students whose families have been assigned for work in the United States from Japan-based corporations.
Work assignments are provided on a full-time basis and may include but are not limited to classroom instruction, preparation of lessons, and arranging a music concert.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS *TEACHING & INSTRUCTION RELATED* * Plan and prepare lessons for chorus of dual parts and musical ensembles for recorders and percussions.
* Adapt and develop teaching materials, utilizing Japanese text books and guidelines.
* Instruct science based on Japanese curriculum standard.
* May use audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement instruction.
* Encourage students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior.
* Provide adequate equipment and activities * Develop and administrate tests *OTHER* * Evaluate and record student progress to assess proficiency.
* Confer with students and school administration to resolve behavioral and academic problems.
* Cooperate with other members of staff and school administration in planning school instruction goals, policies and assessment methods.
* Assist in the selection and ordering of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
* Participate in meetings.
* Develop and maintain the physical environment of classroom including setting up classroom daily, maintaining cleanliness of classroom, etc.
* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
* Maintain and uphold school policies and procedures; includes maintaining all records required by law and school policy.
*Required Skills and Abilities* * *Language – Native level Japanese, reading, writing, speaking, and listening* * Education & Training – Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for Secondary students as well as the measurement of training effects, child development and early education theories and practices; Must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach, counsel or work with Japanese-speaking students.
* Cross-Culture – Understanding of English (required) and Japanese cultures (preferred).
* Listening & Patience – Ability to give full attention to what students are saying, taking time to understand points of view and be patient.
* Personal Computer Usage & Office Equipment - The ability to use a WINDOWS-based computer for work applications such as word processing, presentations, charts, etc.
Also able to use copiers and printers.
* Safety & Security – Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies and procedures to protect students and property.
* Time Management – Must be able to develop and implement work on timely basis including operating under deadlines with interruptions.
*JOB REQUIREMENTS* *EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS* Bachelor’s degree from a four-year university (major in science) or equivalent *REQUIRED work EXPERIENCE* Minimum two years experience in Elementary or Secondary School.
*CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS* Secondary School teacher licenses or credential of science There are required background checks for candidates.
*MENTAL , PHYSICAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS* * Duties performed typically in school settings to include classroom; gym, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas.
* Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 30 pounds and other limited physical activities are required.
* Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical equipment may be required.
* Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.
* Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required.
* Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
* Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
