THE POSITON
Under direction, the Recreation Assistant will assist in the development of the new Pathfinders Program.
The Recreation Assistant will plan, organize, market, assess and coordinate one or more large recreational, instructional, creative, and/or athletic programs for participants of all ages; train, schedule and direct the work of part-time employees and volunteers; perform advanced professional content creation for social media platforms; ensure the safe and appropriate use of recreation equipment and facilities; serve as a lead with broad responsibility for the programs and activities that occur at a specific facility if needed; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, the Recreation Assistant will:
Plan, prepare and execute monthly seminars and excursions;
Provide direct supervision of program and part-time staff;
Track and monitor program expenses to ensure grant compliance;
Communicate regularly with program participants, guardians and program partners;
Manage program logistics and assist Community Services Supervisor with all mandatory grant reporting;
Assist Community Services Supervisor with program development and evaluation of activities;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or equivalent is required.
Completion of 48 units of college course work in a recreation-related field is required (must provide a copy of college transcripts to verify units).
Two (2) years of experience providing instruction-related support for adults, children, or youth, preferably in a recreational program or related environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of:
Plan, organize, coordinate and administer a variety of activities associated with implementing recreational activities for various age groups.
Coordinate and oversee the use of a recreational facility for a variety of recreational programs, special events and other activities.
Effectively represent the department and/or City in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, various businesses, professional and regulatory organizations, and individuals.
Engage with residents, City staff, and City Council on and off the camera.
Train, schedule and direct the work of subordinate staff and volunteers.
Apply the policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the assigned department to make decisions requiring skilled judgment.
Direct the establishment and maintenance of a healthy, positive and safe recreational environment for program participants to learn and grow.
Interact frequently with the public and provide customer service in a calm, courteous and helpful manner.
License or Certificate:
Valid Class C California driver license and acceptable driving record.
