The Village Children's Center (“The Village”) is a developmental preschool where children learn through play.
It provides an enriching and supportive environment for preschoolers, ages 2 to 5.
The Village is affiliated with Riviera United Methodist Church and mirrors the church’s values of promoting love, compassion, justice and peace through personal, local and global projects.
Our mission is to help parents raise children who show empathy and kindness towards all.
We are located in Redondo Beach bordering Torrance and Palos Verdes.
We are seeking a creative, HIGH energy and fun/loving Preschool Teacher for children aged 2 to 5.
This is up to 35 hours/week, starting immediately.
*Required Skills*:
* Ability to plan and implement a quality program for children and parents.
* Ability to communicate with parents and children.
* Ability to works cooperatively with all staff to coordinate program for the entire center.
* Ability to assume the responsibilities of the Center Director while he or she is absent.
* Ability to be well organized and plan ahead.
*Basic Functions and Responsibilities*:
* Initiate, plan and implement quality classroom programming for children.
* Implement a balanced daily schedule which includes opportunities for indoor and outdoor activities, quiet and active periods, individual, small or large group play, and meeting personal needs (resting, eating and toileting).
* Develop and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
Indoor and outdoor environments are thoughtfully planned to provide rich, warm and diverse learning setting.
Choices are regularly available in, but not limited to, the following curriculum areas: science, art, sensory, diversity, small and large motor skills, language arts, dramatic play and problem solving.
* Maintain a safe and healthy environment within guidelines established by State licensing.
Be knowledgeable of and always follow State-licensing guidelines at all times.
* Provide written assessment of each child using the tool chosen by staff (anecdotal, checklist).
* Maintain children’s portfolios.
Portfolios should include, but are not limited to: parent conferences, anecdotal notes, checklists, artwork, and photos.
* Interact daily with parents.
Give brief verbal reports and written notices when necessary.
* Written weekly plans are submitted to the Director every Thursday for the upcoming week.
Written weekly plans are posted for parents every Monday morning.
Individual needs as identified on the assessments, are incorporated into the curriculum plans.
* Involve co-teachers/aide in planning and supervising activities.
Meet weekly with co-teachers/aide to coordinate classroom curriculum and evaluate individual children’s needs.
* Sanitize toys and materials
* Attend Staff Development meetings as required.
* Attend other meetings as requested (open house, parent conferences)
* Meet with Director monthly or on as a needed basis to evaluate, plan, and problem-solve class and center issues.
* Continue ongoing professional development.
* Classroom boards must be changed regularly.
* Hold two scheduled parent conferences per year with each family.
Be available for additional conferences per parent’s request.
Document each conference.
* Orient parents who are new to the center.
* Set annual professional and classroom goals with Director.
* With Center Director participate in an annual program evaluation and goal setting process.
*Qualifications*: (Educational, Certification, etc.
)
* 12 Early Childhood Education units to meet Community Care Licensing Teacher/Aide Qualification or higher.
* Health & Safety Training (CPR and First Aid)
* Health Screening Report (LIC 503) and TB clearance
* Provide shot records (MMR)
* Mandated Child Abuse Training for LIC

* Full pay for 1 week of Spring break
* Full pay for all major holidays
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.
