The Torrance Loves Children (TLC) Teacher works cooperatively with all team members in planning and performing basic care for children enrolled in the TLC Program.
The TLC Teacher supports patient care delivery and is responsible for adhering to all standards of care and for promoting teamwork among coworkers.

Department Specific Competencies
Provides direct patient care for children enrolled in the TLC Program.
Assists patients and school-age children in TLC Unit with schoolwork as needed.
Organizes arts and crafts for both patients and children in TLC Unit to promote fine-motor development and encourage creativity.
Ensures that TLC medication refrigerator remains locked.
Recognizes sign of potential communicable diseases in TLC Unit and notifies the RN .
Utilizes age appropriate toys and activities.
Implements universal protocol for unit population.
Implements TLC Unit daily care plan.
Ensures that the special needs of mildly ill children are met, including, as appropriate, nutrition and fluids, activities, and monitoring temperatures
Ensures all TLC admissions receive identification bands upon arrival and immunizations are current.
Documents accurately all children's activities during the day on TLC daily record form.
Maintains and updates TLC files.
Completes all TLC forms.
Collects TLC fees when the child is discharged.
Education
Degree Program
High School Diploma/GED or Higher Education General Studies
Additional Information
• 3 post-secondary semester or equivalent quarter units in the identification, transmission, control and care of common childhood
; illnesses and communicable diseases.
These units shall be completed at an approved or accredited college or university.

;• Complete 15 hours of health and safety training plus 1 hour nutrition within one year of hire.
