Description
THE POSITION
Under direction, the STAR Program Leader will implement specialized after-school instructional activities for elementary and middle school children in accordance with STAR Program requirements; facilitate the delivery of established literature, math and other enrichment curricula for a single classroom of students; provide basic tutoring and homework assistance; provide students with athletic and non-athletic activities for developing positive life skills; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor the STAR Program Leader will:
Be assigned to work in the STAR After School Program at elementary and middle schools within the City of Paramount.
Facilitate the delivery of the Kidzlit literacy curriculum in addition to math, enrichment, recreational, and homework assistance.
Maintain clean and organized classroom areas.
Actively participate in professional development activities including training workshops and coaching.
Supervise and ensure the safety of students.
Implement and assist in the supervision of recreation activities, sports programs, special events, and excursions.
Employ positive classroom management and discipline techniques.
Consistently support the mission of the STAR program; communicate with parents and volunteers as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma required.
Previous relevant experience or training in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge and Ability:
The successful candidate will have the ability to interact with youth while organizing recreational activities and special events; supervise, assist, and safeguard children participating in STAR programs; communicate clearly and concisely; and must have knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
